01 July 2016 - 01 July 2016
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai launched the Dubai Industrial Strategy on June 25th,“taking one more step towards the future.” His Highness pointed out that today, a sound economy means a diverse and integrated economy led by the industry and manufacturing sectors, and built upon the pillars of innovation and creativity.
Dubai ‘s strategic location, and state of the art infrastructure coupled with its ambition, confidence and experience, give it the edge required to compete in the global industrial sector.
Jafza has been at the forefront of the development of the Dubai Industrial Strategy, along with the Dubai Industrial Park and the active support of the Executive Council of Dubai. More than 25 government entities as well as the private sector, were also involved in the effort.
The Strategy identifies 75 initiatives, which will help transform Dubai into a global platform for knowledge-, innovation- and sustainability-based industries. But this journey did not begin with the launch of the strategy. As Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO DP World, the parent company of Jafza points out, the UAE’s industrial landscape has been changing over the years, because of a continued focus on developing industry and encouraging growth. Dubai, already regarded as a major trading centre, is poised to emerge as a “global industrial centre and a city of integrated logistics.”
Industrial zones across the country are a facet of Dubai’s strategic plans to attract foreign investment, and the announcement of the Jafza-led strategy, complements the efforts being made to diversify the post-oil economy in the UAE.
Mr Bin Sulayem has pointed out that the strategy, which is seen generating an additional AED 165 billion for Dubai by the year 2030, includes incentives to attract industrial investments into Jafza, encouraging the development of local production lines, and the use Jafza as a springboard to distribute their products to the world.
A detailed report about the Dubai Industrial Strategy appears in the latest issue of Jafza’s inhouse magazine The Zone.
